Huntingdon installs new SGA officers

Montgomery, Ala.—More than 45% of Huntingdon College students let their voices be heard in elections for  2012–13 Huntingdon College Student Government Association executive cabinet, senate, and class officers earlier this month. Executive cabinet members from 2011–12 and newly elected officers were honored in a banquet March 13.  The 2012–13 elected student government officers, who began their duties this month and will serve until March 2013, are:

Huntingdon College 2012–2013 SGA Executive Officers:

  • President: Jake Bechert, Class of 2013 (Accounting and Business Administration; Union Grove, Ala.).  In addition to his responsibilities with SGA, Bechert serves as the commander of Sigma Nu fraternity, a student chaplain for Campus Ministries, president of Order of Omega Greek honor society, a Campus Ambassador, and a member of Gamma Sigma Alpha, Omicron Delta Kappa, and Sigma Beta Delta honor societies.  He served as vice president of the SGA during 2011–12.
  • Vice President:  Bailey Scott, Class of 2014 (Biology; Newnan, Ga.). In addition to her responsibilities with SGA, Scott is a member of the Exchange Club, the Environmental Club, and College Democrats.  She serves as vice president for Alpha Omicron Pi women's fraternity, a member of the college newspaper staff, a Huntingdon Host, and an orientation leader.  Scott interns with the American Cancer Society.
  • Treasurer:  Jagger Eastman, Class of 2015 (Youth Ministry and History; Sulligent, Ala.).  Eastman, who serves as marshal for Huntingdon's Nu Beta chapter of Sigma Nu fraternity, is an Inter-Fraternity Council (IFC) delegate and was recently selected as Future Fraternity Leader of the Year.  He is also involved as vice president for Freshman Forum; Welcome Back Week chairman for Campus Activities Board; and was a senator for this year's Freshman Class.
  • Secretary:   Shirin Torabinejad, Class of 2015 (Undeclared; Huntsville, Ala.).  In addition to her responsibilities as SGA secretary, Torabinejad serves as president of the Class of 2015 (this year's Freshman Class) and Freshman Forum president.  She has served as a Freshman Class senator and is involved with Campus Ministries and Alpha Omicron Pi women's fraternity, and interns in youth ministry with First United Methodist Church, Montgomery.
