Herrick, Serebryany perform for first concert in Huntingdon's 2012–2013 Cheek Concert Series

Montgomery, Ala.—The Huntingdon College Elizabeth Belcher Cheek Concert Series will begin with a performance by Huntingdon music faculty Dennis Herrick  and Vadim Serebryany, Thursday, September 20, at 7:30 p.m. in Ligon Chapel, Flowers Hall.  The concert, "Brought to You by the Letter P," will feature the works of composers Alexandra Pakhmutova, Anthony Plog, Amilcare Ponchielli, and Henry Purcell.  The event is free and open to the public. 

Herrick, a professor of music and member of the Huntingdon faculty since 1988, performs as principal trumpet with the Montgomery Symphony; first trumpet and founder of Capital City Brassworks; and first trumpet for Magnolia Brass; and has performed with Capitol Sounds Concert Band.  He studied at Eastman School of Music and North Texas State University.  Serebryany joined the Huntingdon faculty in 2008 and has performed on national and international stages as a solo piano artist, with symphonies, and in chamber ensembles.  He holds degrees from the Royal Conservatory of Music (Toronto), the Juilliard School, and Yale University.

The Cheek Concert Series is endowed by Mr. Ben F. Cheek III and his family in memory of his first wife, a Huntingdon alumna.

Huntingdon College, grounded in the Judeo-Christian tradition of the United Methodist Church, is committed to nurturing growth in faith, wisdom, and service and to graduating individuals prepared to succeed in a rapidly changing world. The Huntingdon Department of Music offers a degree in music with P–12 teacher certification or concentrations in voice, piano, instrumental music, or worship leadership.  The department offers a number of performing ensembles for students, including the Marching Scarlet and Grey, Concert Choir, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Huntingdon Harmony (jazz choir), Percussion Ensemble, and Barbershop.
