He was a member of the Alabama-West Florida Conference from 1946 until his death February 14, 2002. They served from 1954–70 as missionaries in the Philippines. Bill taught in the Department of Religion at Huntingdon College from 1970 to 1986 and served as the General Secretary of United Christian Ashrams from 1986 to 2002. The couple has five children: Susan, Henry, Marshall, Jamie, and Wes.

In 1977, Mary Ann assisted Dr. Glenn Massengale in establishing the Methodist Archives Center in the Huntingdon College library and was named archivist in 1986 when Dr. Massengale retired. Her personal interests include music, church activities, and computers.

Mission of the Archives and Special Collections

The Archives and Special Collections Department is a joint venture with the Methodist Archives Center. It is to be the collective memory of the Alabama-West Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church and of Huntingdon College. It collects, preserves, and makes readily accessible their valuable records for research, inspiration, and establishing facts.
