Psychology: Preparation for Life
Most students will take at least one psychology class while at Huntingdon. Psychology courses are useful for a variety of career paths and for graduate or professional study. The psychology major and minor include curricula that are flexible and can be customized to serve a variety of needs and interests.
Psychology at Work
The study of psychology at Huntingdon means participating in your course work through active involvement in the community. Internships, guest speakers, clubs, and organizations bring the knowledge you have gained in the classroom to life and give you experience for your résumé. Located in the state's capital city, Huntingdon has access to several internship opportunities that provide students with experience in the field. Recent students have chosen internships with the State of Alabama, private adoption agencies, drug and alcohol rehabilitation clinics, pastoral counseling programs, and local crisis counseling centers.
Honor Societies, Awards, and Clubs
Huntingdon's chapter of Psi Chi, the international honor society in psychology, has been in place since the 1960s. New members are inducted each spring to this well-respected society.
The L.G. Bailey Psychology award is granted each year to the graduating senior who is judged by the faculty to be the “most outstanding” student based on GPA, course work, and involvement in the community.
The Psychology Club is a social organization for majors, minors and any Huntingdon students who are interested in psychology.
Eligible students may participate in the Honors Program and upper-level students may apply to graduate with Departmental Honors.

Careers
While many of our graduates continue their education in graduate schools (approximately 80% of graduates apply to graduate school, with a near 100% acceptance rate), you can, in fact, start a career with a BA in psychology. Graduates of the major have careers in human relations, general counseling, college admission counseling, sales, business, and law enforcement, among other fields.
