The Community Leadership Program

Be the Change

students with shovels“Be the change you wish to see in the world.” ~Mahatma Gandhi

Do you believe in the power of one individual? Are you a natural leader? Do you feel called to affect change?

Introduced for first-year students entering in fall 2018 (Class of 2022), the Community Leadership Program will change the way you think about your role as a citizen, and empower you to take steps toward change in your community.

CLP 2022

A four-year cohort of entering fall 2018 first-year students will be selected. A special application is required. Those selected will receive scholarships equaling $54,000 over a combined four years; $13,500 each year, renewable annually based upon participation. Program completion will be announced with honors at graduation and included on your transcript. CLP Scholarships may not be combined with other merit or academic scholarships, but may be combined with need-based financial aid.

Because of the time commitment required for participation in this program, students who are involved with intercollegiate athletic teams, band, cheer, pom squad, or choir are not eligible to participate.

CLP Events

  • Lectures
  • Field trips
  • Community development simulations
  • Discussion groups
  • Community leadership events

Topics of discussion and study will be determined by community and world events and issues, but could include:

  • How does access to education affect a community’s ability to thrive?
  • How do clean water and sanitation removal affect community health?
  • What actions can citizens take to affect change?
  • What resources are necessary to attract new enterprises to an area?
  • How does enterprise change surrounding businesses, natural resources, and community assets?
  • What roles do parks, recreation, workforce development, education, arts, and religion play in a community’s ability to attract and keep enterprises?

How to Apply

To apply, complete the Community Leadership Program Application linked above. The application deadline is February 1, 2018.
