Huntingdon Men's Soccer Adds 11 Commitments for 2008 Season
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Huntingdon College men’s soccer head coach Kevin Ray announced on Wednesday that 11 prep players have completed their intent to enroll paperwork and have committed to play soccer for the Hawks in 2008.
Morgan Burke, Louis Hines, Joseph Jean, Will Young, Austin McNabb, Rusty Cowley, Jacob Bailey, Patrick Huntley, Darrin Myers, Robert Paul and Brian Flatt have been accepted to Huntingdon and will suit up for the Hawks next season.
“This is the strongest recruiting class that has come to Huntingdon during my tenure,” head coach Kevin Ray. “I expect this class to come in and make an immediate impact on our program during the 2008 season. With our team equaling the school record for wins as a Division III institution, this class will have high expectations to continue to elevate the level of men’s soccer at Huntingdon College.”
Burke was a three-year starter at forward for head coach Travis Stone at McGill-Toolen High School in Mobile, Ala. While attending the Virginia Tech Soccer Camp last summer, Burke garnered Most Valuable Player honors and also helped the Mobile Soccer Club to the Alabama Division I State Finals. In addition, he also competed in the Region III Premier League in 2007.
Hines, a native of Pensacola, Fla., prepped at Pensacola Catholic High School, where he played three seasons. During his career, he was named a team captain, while playing at central midfield. He also played on the Bayside Soccer Club Team for four years, under former U.S. National Team member Bruce Savage.
One of two commitments from the state of Georgia, Joseph Jean played four seasons at Central Fellowship Christian Academy in Macon, Ga. The Chaplin for his senior class, Jean also played club soccer in northern California and for CGSA (Central Georgia Soccer Association) Select.
A three-year starter at midfield, Young prepped at Benjamin Russell High School in Alexander City, Ala. During his final season with the Wildcats, he was named a team captain.
McNabb, a four-year starter at Kennesaw Mountain High School in Georgia, played both forward and midfield while with the Mustangs. McNabb also played club soccer for Cobb FC and coach Phil Donaldson.
Cowley prepped at Thompson High School in Alabaster, Ala., for head coach Adam Johnson. He also played two years for the Hoover Soccer Club, where he was a center midfielder.
A team captain and varsity player since the eighth grade, Bailey prepped at Opelika High School. Bailey also played for the Columbus Red Stars Futbol Club during the past three seasons, where he played midfield and left back.
Huntley was a teammate of Young at Benjamin Russell High School, where he was a three-year starter at forward.
Myers prepped at Smith Station High School in Smiths, Ala., for head coach Jim Creek. During his lone season with the Panthers, Myers played forward, while also participating on the Auburn Thunder.
Paul played four seasons at Talladega High School in Talladega, Ala., where he played forward. Flatt was a four-year player at Providence Christian School in Dothan, Ala.
The Hawks finished the 2007 season 7-11-1 overall, tying Huntingdon’s record for wins in a season as a Division III institution.
