Huntingdon Volleyball Hosts Spelman On Wednesday in Pink Out
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Huntingdon volleyball team will hold a “Pink Out” on Wednesday, Oct. 15, when it hosts Spelman in the Wilson Athletic Center, in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Huntingdon will join numerous volleyball teams across the country in participating in fund raising and awareness events during the month.
The Lady Hawks have selected a local organization to provide support to, as all proceeds from donations and t-shirt sales will go to the Joy to Life Foundation. The foundation is a non-profit organization providing free mammograms for medically underserved women under 50 years of age in the tri-county area of Montgomery.
The organization was founded in 2001 by Joy, a breast cancer survivor, and Richard Blondheim of Montgomery, both of who have attended a Huntingdon volleyball practice earlier this month to meet the team. More information on the organization can be found at www.joytolife.org.
In preparation for the Pink Out, the Lady Hawks spent the month of September selling pink t-shirts for the event. Huntingdon will also sport pink jerseys for the contest against the Jaguars, which starts at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
The public is invited to come in their pink shirts as well. T-shirts will be available for purchase the day of the even, while donations will also be taken during the match. Special guests at the match will include breast cancer survivors. The Huntingdon Alumni Association will also be passing out cups to the first 100 fans in attendance for the match.
The match with the Jaguars is slated to begin at 6 p.m. in the Wilson Athletic Center and admission is free.
