Huntindon Women's Hoops Among NCAA Division III Most Improved Teams

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Huntingdon women’s basketball team was recently listed as one of the most improved teams at the Division III level in a report compiled by the National Collegiate Athletic Association.

The Lady Hawks finished with an improvement of 6.5 victories, after posting a 15-12 record during the 2007-08 season. The year prior, Huntingdon finished 8-18 overall.

Lebanon Valley topped the list with a 14-win improvement, after finishing 24-6 last season, compared to 7-17 the year before. Amherst, Franklin and Marshall and Regis (Mass.) each bettered their previous season by 12.5 victories.

In addition to increased win totals, the Lady Hawks also saw their points per game rise and points allowed per game decrease during the two-year span. In 2007-08, Huntingdon scored 65.7 points per contest, an increase of 5.3 points from the season before. The Lady Hawks also cut their opponents points per game by 3.1 per contest.

Rebounds per game were also up for Huntingdon, which upped its rebounding average by 2.1 boards per contest.

While the points and rebounds were up, the turnovers went down drastically for the Lady Hawks, as Huntingdon committed 6.3 fewer miscues during its improved season.

During the 2007-08 season, the Lady Hawks picked up two more victories at home, going 9-5, and five more road wins, improving from 1-10 to 6-7 away from Roland Arena.
