Fredenburg Earns GSAC All-Conference Honors; Tatom Named to All-Freshman Team

LAGRANGE, Ga. - Huntingdon junior Courtney Fredenburg has been named to the All-Great South Athletic Conference team and freshman Renee Tatom was selected to the conference All-Freshman team, the league announced on Friday.

Fredenburg, a Scottville, Mich., native, led the Lady Hawks in goals scored (8), shots (44), shots on goals (29) and game-winning goals (3). Her goal and shot totals each ranked tied for sixth in the GSAC, while her three game-winning goals was tied for third best in the league. A three-year starter, she now has 18 career goals and 40 career points.

In her first season with the Lady Hawks, Tatom scored five goals and added two assists to finish second on the squad with 12 total points. She recorded 33 total shots, including 22 on goal, and scored one game-winning goal.

The Great South Athletic Conference also announced its GSAC All-Academic team on Friday. Huntingdon was represented by sophomore Ginger Tyson, a chemistry major from Robertsdale, Ala.

To be recognized by the GSAC as an All-Academic team member, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or better and be a sophomore or higher in classification.

Maryville’s Jessica Petersen was named the Player of the Year for the second straight season after leading the GSAC in points, goals and goals per game. She finished the regular season with 17 goals and 41 points.

Midfielder Briana Karettis of Agnes Scott was the Freshman of the Year, after finishing second on the team with seven goals and 15 points.

Piedmont's Stephen Andrew was the Coach of the Year, after leading the Lady Lions to a 13-3 record this season and a second place finish in the regular season.

Under the direction of first-year head coach Wes Anania, the Lady Hawks wrapped up the 2009 season with a 5-9-2 overall record and a 2-5 mark in GSAC play. The five victories by the Lady Hawks are the most by a team since the 2005 squad finished 6-13.
