DEMOREST, Ga. - The Huntingdon men’s tennis team’s quest for a third straight Great South Athletic Conference Tournament title fell short on Sunday, when the Hawks fell to Maryville College 5-1 in the finals of the 2010 Tournament, hosted by Piedmont.
Huntingdon trailed after the doubles portion of the match, 2-1, picking up a hard-fought victory at the No. 1 position by senior Kent Hagan and junior B.J. Foroughian, 9-7.
However, in singles play, Foroughian, sophomore Stephen Butts and freshman Zane Smith were defeated in straight sets to secure the victory for Maryville.
Maryville’s Matt Limone was named the Tournament Most Valuable Player after winning the deciding match at the No. 4 spot.
With the loss, the Hawks end their season with an 8-9 overall record, while the Scots finished 10-5.
