Lady Hawks Drop Battle with Agnes Scott in GSAC Tournament Championship Match

NORCROSS, Ga. - For the third consecutive season, the Huntingdon women’s tennis team has met Agnes Scott in the championship match of the Great South Athletic Conference Tournament, but for the second straight year, the Scotties have left the court victorious as the Lady Hawks fell 5-4 in a hard-fought battle for the GSAC’s automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Championship on Sunday at the Racquet Club of the South.

In the doubles portion of the match, the Lady Hawks fell behind 2-0 after the first two matches. However, the sophomore tandem of Madison Jackson and Christian Vick captured an 8-5 victory over Shamonique Jones and Amanda Chaffin at the No. 3 spot.

Huntingdon pulled even when sophomore Kayla Heetland picked up a straight-set win at the No. 5 spot, 6-3, 6-1, over Hannah Kraus.

After the two squads traded points, with the Lady Hawks picking up a victory from senior Riley Prescott at the No. 2 position, Vick gave them a one-point lead, 4-3, with a 6-3, 6-3, win over Chaffin at the No. 6 position.

The lead would be short lived for the Lady Hawks, as the Scotties (11-7) picked up victories at both the No. 3 and No. 4 singles position, both in straight sets.

The Scotties’ Danielle Patton was named the Tournament’s Most Valuable Player, after winning her doubles match and forcing a deciding match in singles play.

The Lady Hawks posted a 16-5 record in the season, finishing 8-0 in the GSAC during the regular season and 10-2 against Atlantic South region opponents.
