DECATUR, Ga. ---- The
Huntingdon volleyball team (12-11) won their first match of the day
against Agnes Scott, 3-2, before beating Maryville, 3-1. The Lady
Hawks picked up two big conference victories, including first-time
win over Lady Scots for Aiello.
The Lady Hawks won their
first match against Agnes Scott in the fifth set on Saturday, (26-28,
20-25, 25-12, 16-25, 15-9).
Clare Shannon paced the
squad with 16 kills, while Melony Motley and Kelly Kahumoku each
added 13 in the contest. Alyssa Eason tallied 35 assists to pace the
squad.
Defensively, Eason led the
Lady Hawks with 16 digs, while Clare Shannon and Christine Whiten
each posted 12. Melony Motley recorded three assisted blocks in the
win.
Four Lady Hawks posted one
service ace in the match, including Abby Brown, Abby Carter,
Christine Whiten, and Krissie Jones.
In the second match of the
day against Maryville, the Lady Hawks picked up a big win in four
sets, (25-22, 19-25, 25-23, 25-19).
Kelly Kahumoku led the
team with 14 kills, while Melony Motley and Abby Carter contributed
13 and 11, respectively. Alyssa Eason tallied a day-high 42 assists
to lead the Lady Hawks.
Defensively, Christine
Whiten paced the team with 13 digs, while Krissie Jones and Alyssa
Eason added 12 and 10, respectively. Abby Brown recorded four
assisted blocks in the victory over the Lady Scots.
Abby Brown led the team
with two service aces.
The victory over Maryville
was a sweet one for head coach Megan Aiello, as the win marks the
first-time beating Maryville as the head coach of the Lady Hawks.
Coach Aiello was pleased with the Lady Hawks two conference wins on
Saturday, “I'm very proud of the way we played today, and we earned
the wins today in both matches.”
Huntingdon will return to
action on Tuesday, Oct. 19, traveling to cross-town rival Faulkner
University. The match is set for 6 p.m.
