The no. 2 ranked Huntingdon men’s golf team wins by two strokes
over Methodist in the final round of the Oglethorpe Royal Lakes
Invitational at the Royal Lakes Golf Course. Freshman Jamey Lester
continued to lead the Hawks, finishing tied for first with a
two-under par two day total.
The Hawks came out firing
a team total three-over par 287 in the final round. Huntingdon
captured the win by consistently shooting the same team total each
round for an overall six-over par 574. Methodist's charge fell two
strokes short, finishing the tournament with a team total eight-over
par 576. Costal Georgia finished the tournament third with a team
total eighteen-over par 586, followed by host Oglethorpe with a
twenty-three-over par 591. California Lutheran rounded out the
top-five, after posting a team total twenty-four-over par 592.
Freshman Jamey Lester
shared the individual championship with a final round one-over par
72, including a tournament total two-under par 140. Chase Blaich
finished tied for 8th
place with a two-over par 73, while posting a tournament total
two-over par 144.
J.P. Kircher and Rodes
Bowers each shot a two day total of three-over par 145, including a
final round one-under par 70 and one-over par 72, respectively.
Rounding out the scoring
for Huntingdon was Cates Culpepper carding a final round five-over
par 76, to finish the tournament nine-over par and tied for 31st
place.
Following the victory,
head coach Matt Mahanic said, “This is a great way for us to end
the Fall with a win.” After a strong round one performance and
finishing tied for the individual championship, freshman Jamey Lester
has risen Coach Mahanic's expectations, “I'm very proud of the way
Jamey played, and I look forward to big things in the future from
him.”
California Lutheran's Chad
Gillepsie and Methodist's RobbyBruns finished tied with Huntingdon's
Jamey Lester with a tournament total two-under par 140, for the
individual championship.
The 1st
place finish at the Oglethorpe Royal Lakes Invitational concludes the
Hawks 2010 Fall season. Huntingdon will open the spring season on
Feb. 21-22nd,
hosting the Wynlakes Wynter Nationals in Montgomery, Ala.
