MACON,
Ga. --- The Huntingdon College women’s basketball team picked up
its' third Great South Athletic Conference victory, 72-55, on the
road against Wesleyan College on Wednesday evening in Macon, Ga. The
Lady Hawks led 35-22 at the break, and controlled the second-half for
the conference win.
Huntingdon's
LaTerial Williams posted her fourth straight double-digit scoring
performance as the Lady Hawks improve to .500 in conference play.
Wesleyan
opened the game with a layup and the lead, but the Lady Hawks
responded with a 10-0 run (14-4) with 14:37 in the first-half. The
Pioneers are now winless in seven straight GSAC matches.
In
the second-half, Huntingdon gained its' largest lead of the evening,
52-24, after an impressive 15-0 run, with 13:58 left in the game. The
Pioneers never cut the deficit below double-digits in the final
period on Wednesday evening.
Junior
LaTerial Williams paced the team with 14 points, including 6-of-6
from the free-throw line and 6 rebounds. Senior Kayla Northington
added 13 points, while junior Whitney Toole recorded a game-high 4
blocks in the win.
For
the game, Huntingdon held a 50-48 advantage on the glass. The Lady
Hawks converted 35.7 percent of its shots, hitting 25-of-70, while
Wesleyan finished 17-of-58 (29.3 percent).
The
Pioneers (3-8, GSAC 0-7) were led by Ciara Walker with a game-high 24
points and 14 rebounds in the loss.
The
Lady Hawks' (6-8, GSAC 3-3) next game is against Great South Athletic
Conference opponent, LaGrange College, on Saturday, Jan. 22, in
