MONTGOMERY, Ala. --- After trailing by
only three points at the half, Huntingdon College's women's
basketball team was outscored 44-27 in the final period to LaGrange
College on Senior day.
The Lady Hawks (9-14, 4-8 GSAC) were
led by freshman Raven Prater with 11 points, followed by Devin
Douglas' 10 in Saturday's Great South Athletic Conference loss to
LaGrange (19-3, 11-2 GSAC).
The Panthers finished 27-of-60 (45
percent) from the field, while Huntingdon shot 31 percent (22-of-71)
in the loss. LaGrange held a 47-40 advantage on the glass.
Huntingdon led by five points early in
Saturday's contest, 9-4, before the Panthers scored seven straight
points taking the 11-9 advantage with 12:55 remaining in the first
half. The Lady Hawks regained the lead 14-11, but LaGrange's offense
responded by scoring 10 consecutive points, 21-14.
The Lady Hawks were able to cut the
Panthers seven point margin down to three, 29-26, by intermission.
Huntingdon outscored LaGrange 12-8 in the final eight minutes of the
first half. Sophomore Devin Douglas led the team at the break with
eight points and four rebounds in 14 minutes of action.
In the second half, the Lady Hawks cut
LaGrange's lead down to 35-33 with 17:25 remaining. The Panthers
responded with a 10-0 run extending its lead to 43-33 with 13:01 left
in regulation. Huntingdon cut the margin to five points, 45-40, with
10:30 left, but LaGrange's offense would control the remaining ten
minutes of the contest outscoring the Lady Hawks 28-13 in the, 73-53,
victory.
The Panthers were led by sophomore
Heather Miller with a game-high 23 points, followed by sophomore
Katie Covington's 15 in the conference win.
Huntingdon looks to rebound on Tuesday,
Feb. 15, when it hosts GSAC opponent, Spelman College in Roland
Arena. Tip off is set for 6 p.m.
