LAGRANGE, Ga. --- The Great South
Athletic Conference announced its 2010-11 men's and women's
basketball All-Conference awards earlier today with five Hawks and
two Lady Hawks making the list.
The Lady Hawks' Jessi Andrews and
Ashley Bonner earned GSAC All-Academic Team honors for this season
after recording at least a 3.25 GPA in the classroom. Andrews also
took home the GSAC's Individual Sportsmanship Award for the Lady
Hawks. “I'm proud of the girls hard work in academics as well as
athletics in receiving this honor,” said head coach Buzz Phillips.
“I'd like to congratulate these young
men for the great accomplishments they received from the conference
this season,” said head coach Mike Pugh on the five Hawks awarded
by the GSAC.
Seniors Adrian Williams and Ephriam
Hudson, both natives of Montgomery, were voted to the GSAC
All-Conference Team after finishing 4th and 6th
in conference scoring, respectively. Hudson started in 22 of the 24
games this season averaging 13.7 points per game and led the
conference with 33.2 minutes per game. Williams led the GSAC with 44
blocks and placed 5th in rebounding with 133 total.
Newcomer Dayne Smith, a native of
Aliquippa, Pa., was named to the GSAC All-Freshman Team after
contributing off the bench for the Hawks. Smith averaged 13.7 minutes
per game as a freshman scoring 81 points on the season, while
shooting 22-of-30 from the free throw line.
Senior Deshaun Williams, a native of
Aberdeen, Miss., was one of four players receiving the GSAC
Sportsmanship Award. Williams started 21 of 24 games this season
averaging 9.1 points per game, while finishing 3rd in the
conference with 72 assists.
The Luverne, Ala. native, sophomore
Mike Kilpatrick received the All-Academic Team honor after posting a
3.78 GPA. Kilpatrick played in 21 games this season dishing out 21
assists while scoring 21 points for the Hawks.
Huntingdon (10-14, 2-4 GSAC) returns to
action this Friday, Feb. 25, at Roland Arena for the GSAC semifinals
contest against Piedmont College (10-15, 3-3 GSAC). Tip off is set
for 7:30 p.m., with live stats available at www.greatsouth.org.
