ROME, Ga. --- Ali Hamil helped
Huntingdon College's women's golf team shoot a round-one school-record low 330, after
firing a Huntingdon individual-best one-over par, 73, which currently puts her tied for 2nd
place in the field of 94 golfers. The Lady Hawks fell just outside of
the top-5 trailing Birmingham-Southern College by one-stroke after
the first round of the Rome News-Tribune Invitational hosted by Berry
College.
Huntingdon's Ali Hamil sits
four-strokes behind the current individual leader Greta Lange of
Shorter University, with a school-record low one-over par, 73, in the opening
round. Lange shot an individual-best on day one with a 3-under par,
69.
Shorter leads the 11-team field after
shooting a 298 on Monday followed by Lee University's 304. The
University of West Georgia landed in the third spot after carding a
team-total 318, while the University of Cumberlands shot a 320 in
fourth place. Birmingham-Southern rounded out the top-5 with a
one-stroke advantage over the Lady Hawks with a 329 total.
Huntingdon's Meg McGuire finished tied
for 23rd with a day-one 10-over par, 82, while Saem Hur
posted a 14-over, 86, in 38th place. Kaitlin Rozof
completed the opening round tied for 41st place with a 89,
followed by Huntingdon's Alex Foster's 54th place finish
with a 96.
The Lady Hawks look to climb up the
leader board on Tuesday, Mar. 8, for the final round of the Rome
News-Tribune Invitational at Coosa Country Club in Rome, Ga.
