JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. --- Huntingdon
College's second-ranked men's golf team finished in 12th
place following a first round team 302 in the Jekyll Island
Intercollegiate hosted by seventh-ranked Oglethorpe University. The
Hawks are 12-strokes behind current leaders Transylvania University
and Illinois Wesleyan (290).
Huntingdon was led by freshman Jamey
Lester with a first round 1-over par, 73, tied for 14th
place. Senior Chase Blaich's 3-over par, 75, placed him tied for
39th. Freshmen Rodes Bowers and Cates Culpepper each
finished tied for 66th place with a 5-over par, 77. Senior
J.P. Kircher rounded out the Hawks' scoring with an opening round
9-over par, 81.
Transylvania and Illinois Wesleyan each
carded a first round low with a 290. Greensboro College finished
three-strokes back for third place with a 293, while Emory University
trailed by one-stroke with a 294. Methodist University and
Birmingham-Southern College rounded out the top-5 with a team total
296.
Huntingdon looks to move up the leader
board in the second round of the Jekyll Island Intercollegiate on
Saturday, Mar. 19, at Jekyll Island Golf Club.
