Second-Ranked Hawks Win by 13-Strokes after Dominant Performance at the Piedmont Spring Invitational

CLARKESVILLE, Ga. --- Huntingdon College's men's golf team won their first tournament of the spring while setting several Piedmont Spring Invitational records in the process. Senior Chase Blaich's five-under par, 67, on Tuesday secured the individual title at the two day tournament.

Blaich finished the last nine holes of the tournament with a six-under par, 30. “Chase Blaich's final nine hole performance is the best I've ever seen as the head coach at Huntingdon,” said head coach Matt Mahanic. “He carried us this week and I expect him to continue playing at this level for the rest of the spring.”

In the fifth year of the Piedmont Spring Invitational, Huntingdon set several new tournament records after Tuesday's win including a team low 36 (582), team round low (285) and Blaich's individual low 36 (137).

The Hawks shot an impressive 285 on the final day securing the win by 13-strokes with a tournament total of 582. After leading by one-stroke on the first day, Reinhardt University finished second with a team total of 595. Coastal Georgia landed in third place after carding a team total of 611 in the two day tournament. Maryville College and Franklin College rounded out the top-5 with totals of 615 and 622, respectively.

Blaich paced the Hawks on the final day after firing a round low five-under par, 67, for a two day total of 137 and the individual title. Freshman Cates Culpepper finished nine-strokes behind Blaich in 2nd place with a 146 total following a second round career-best three-under par, 69.

Tied for 6th place, senior J.P. Kircher shot a three-over par, 75, for a two day total of 149. Freshman Jamey Lester trailed Kircher by one-stroke with a tournament total of 150 (tied for 8th) following a two-over par, 74. Freshman Matt Stinebaugh completed Huntingdon's scoring finishing tied for 31st with a two day total of 162. Stinebaugh improved by 10-strokes from his first round total by carding a four-over par, 76, in the final round.

The Hawks will return to action in the opening round of the Reeder Cup hosted by Covenant College on Monday, Apr. 4th, in Lookout Mountain, Ga. at the Lookout Mountain Golf Course.
