GREENSBORO, N. C. --- Huntingdon College’s seventh-ranked men’s
golf team carded a six-over par, 294, in the first round of the NCAA Division
III National Championship at the Grandover Resort and Conference Center in
Greensboro, North Carolina on Tuesday afternoon.
Huntingdon finished two-strokes outside of the top-5 on the
leader board in the opening round of the championship. Oglethorpe University
and St. John’s University each fired an opening round two-under par, 286, tied
for the top spot. Emory University finished in 3rd place, 289,
one-over par. Greensboro College and Texas Lutheran University rounded out the
top-5 scoring with 291 and 292 team totals, respectively.
Freshman Jamey Lester paced the seventh-ranked Hawks in the
opening round with an even-par, 72, finishing tied for 29th place at
the Grandover Resort and Conference Center’s West Course on Tuesday afternoon.
Newcomer Cates Culpepper trailed Lester by one-stroke carding a one-over par,
73, tied for 46th place.
Senior J.P. Kircher shot a first round two-over par, 74,
finishing tied for 71st place.
Senior Chase Blaich and freshman Rodes Bowers completed Huntingdon’s
scoring each tied for 94th with three-over par, 75.
The Hawks will try to move up the leader board tomorrow, May
11, beginning at 11:10 a.m. Eastern on the Grandover Resort and Conference
Center’s East Course. Complete
