MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Huntingdon receiver Cody Pearcy
had a knack for finding the end zone in the first half against Hampden-Sydney
on Saturday.
The senior scored three times on four catches in the first
half to help spark the Hawks in a 34-27 win over the nationally ranked Tigers.
The preseason All-American is this week’s ALFA Insurance® Student-Athlete of
the Week.
Pearcy is the first recipient of the award.
“It’s a great honor to be the first person to receive this
award,” Pearcy said. “It’s a good feeling when you work hard to accomplish
goals. To be recognized with this award just adds to that.”
Pearcy’s first touchdown, a halfback pass from Trevor Manuel,
put Huntingdon up 7-0 in the first four minutes of the game. Pearcy’s second
touchdown, a 15-yard pass from Neal Posey, came midway through the second
quarter. His third touchdown, a 49-yard strike from Posey, gave Huntingdon a
34-12 lead at the half.
Pearcy’s contributions helped the Hawks pick up their first win over a Top-25 program.
“That just makes it even better,” Pearcy said. “That win was
huge for our program. It was something we had never done before. I think it
proved to us that if we play like we’re supposed to, anything is possible for
us.”
ALFA is pleased to recognize Pearcy and all Huntingdon
student-athletes for their hard work and accomplishments throughout the 2011-2012
season.
