 Sherry Leigh Lacey '13

Hometown: Lapine, Alabama

Major: Psychology, with a minor in Business

Career Intentions: Teaching or counseling in a school

Ask Sherry Leigh about her favorite Huntingdon memories, and be prepared for an avalanche of examples. "Freshman year water rafting trip; FCA New Year's Conference trip in Nashville; cheering at football games and traveling to away games; dancing down the aisle; Twinkie-eating contests; singing so loud to all of our favorite songs; cheer trips to Disney World and Philadelphia; becoming a Chi Omega; formals and swaps—getting paint thrown all over me, Red Lady Run, sisterhood retreats, recruitment workshops; band parties; orientation work weeks—filming crazy videos, orientation in general; intramurals; playing beach volleyball; work-study in the Alumni Office; moving in and out of the dorms way too many times; and all the crazy memories with my roommates in the residence halls and everywhere we go … I could go on and on!"

Truly, she made the most of her Huntingdon years.  The valedictorian of her high school class, Jimmy Hitchcock nominee, and Girls State delegate could have chosen nearly any college, but she says that attending a Host Day opened her eyes to a "new Huntingdon," and she couldn't be happier with her choice. "The experiences I had at Huntingdon were definitely one-of-a-kind. Had I gone elsewhere, I know I would not have had the chance to be as involved as I was at Huntingdon. I could cheer, be a part of a sorority, and be involved in many other groups and clubs around campus. I love how everyone knows everyone at Huntingdon. Everyone really is a family, including the faculty and staff. And the president knows each person by name, making you feel important and truly a part of the Huntingdon family."

"Coming to Huntingdon was one of the best decisions I have ever made. It opened so many doors for me, helped me grow as a person, and giving me lifetime friendships. The level of friendliness goes beyond expectations. The faculty and staff genuinely care about you and will push you to succeed inside and outside the classroom. And of course, Huntingdon is fun! The campus events are always great and give you a chance to get to know others around campus."

Sherry Leigh's involvement was just as strong inside the classroom.  In addition to serving on the Chi Omega House Corps and as secretary of the Psychology Club, singing in the Campus Ministries/EMERGE Praise Band, and serving as treasurer for Order of Omega, she made the Dean's List every semester and was named to seven honor societies. "It makes me sad that I had to graduate and leave, but will always cherish every moment of my Huntingdon years!"

Sherry Leigh is a graduate student in education psychology/counseling at Auburn University.
