Kendra

Major:  Biology/Pre-Med

Hometown:  Montgomery, Ala.

Career Intention:  Health care

Kendra says she chose Huntingdon because of the pre-professional team of faculty advisers, on whose advice she relies as she shapes her path to graduate or professional school and a career in health care.  A member of the National Honor Society, National Society of High School Scholars, and the National Technical Honor Society while a student at Brewbaker Technology Magnet High School, Kendra has continued her reputation for serious scholarly activity at Huntingdon, where she takes time out of her studies to serve as a College Ambassador and to participate in the Commuter Student Organization and in Chapel services.

"I could not have experienced having one-on-one interaction with my professors had I gone to another college," says Kendra.  "Here, I've had numerous opportunities that have taken me out of my comfort zone, and the rewards of those opportunities have been great."

Along the way, she has readily used the resources available to her in the Staton Center for Learning Enrichment and the Writing Center, as well as the advice and guidance of her faculty mentors.  In fact, after working with a Writing Center professor, her next paper was returned with a grade of 100.  "I could have hugged Dr. Gunther when I saw her the following week."

She still remembers walking across the bridge as an incoming freshman during Big Red Weekend—it's one of her favorite Huntingdon memories.  "I knew that soon I would be walking over that same bridge as a Huntingdon graduate."
