Housing Application Process

Ligon Hall

Ligon Hall

New, Transfer, or Readmitted Students Entering Huntingdon Fall 2015

To register for fall housing, submit the online housing application and the online housing contract. Room and roommate assignments are made during the summer and mailed in late July for fall term enrollment.

Be aware that you will move into College housing prior to the start date for the first day of classes. Usually, new students who are fall sport athletes will move in mid-August (you will be notified of specific dates by your coach) for pre-season training.  Others will arrive for Big Red Weekend, the fall orientation program, held Friday-Saturday prior to the first day of classes in the fall term.  The Office of Student Life or your athletic coach (fall sports only) will notify you of specific move-in dates.

Current Huntingdon Students (Housing for Fall 2015)

The housing application process will take place entirely online. An online application will be distributed to current students directly, via e-mail, according to the following schedule:

  • Current Seniors: Beginning Sunday, April 12, at 10 p.m.
  • Current Juniors: Beginning Monday, April 13, at 10 p.m.
  • Current Sophomores: Beginning Tuesday, April 14, at 10 p.m.
  • Current Freshmen: Beginning Wednesday, April 15, at 10 p.m.

Applications will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis. Students are highly encouraged to complete the housing application between the above date and Sunday, April 19. Staff will begin making housing assignments on April 20. You will be notified of your housing assignment for Fall 2015 on April 30. Only those students who have registered for a minimum of 12 academic credit hours for fall will receive a housing assignment.

Current Blount residents will be the only residents permitted to “squat” their current rooms to return to them next year. To be eligible to keep your current room, you must list a roommate on the application and select “yes” to the application question asking if you’d like to stay in your current housing assignment.

There will be an informational session and Q&A with Residence Life staff on Thursday, April 2, at 6:30 p.m. in Smith Recital Hall, where you will have an opportunity to learn more and to ask any specific questions you may have about this process.

Returning Students’ Housing FAQ

I do not currently live on campus. May I apply for on-campus housing for 2015–2016?

Certainly! Huntingdon College’s four-year housing requirement guarantees on-campus housing availability to those eligible and interested in living in our residence halls. Please follow the posted list of steps to complete your online housing application on the appropriate date.

May I keep my current room for next year?

Only those students currently residing in Blount or the houses may select this option. To keep your current room in these areas, please indicate “yes” on the “would you like to remain in your current room” question.

How are the students in the college-owned houses’ Greek spaces selected?

The Greek housing spaces are filled by the respective chapters. These Greek organizations provide a roster of students to live in their spaces prior to room selection. Students chosen to live in these areas WILL still need to complete online housing applications.

What do I do if I want to change any of the information on my application after it’s been submitted?

Please e-mail Director of Residence Life Christine Simone at csimone@hawks.huntingdon.edu to inform her of these changes. You will not be able to edit your application once submitted.

Can I “pull in” my preferred roommate to my room  if my application is available before his/hers?

Yes, you may. Both roommates will be prioritized to the timestamp of the first submission, however both must submit a housing application/contract before being officially assigned to the room.

When will I find out my final room and roommates for fall?

The Office of Residence Life intends to distribute this information via Huntingdon College e-mail on April 30. All students requesting housing must be registered for a minimum of 12 academic credit hours for fall in order to be assigned a room.

If I list a roommate, am I guaranteed to receive that person?

Students requesting a specific person will automatically be paired with them as long as both parties mutually agree to live with each other (per the information provided on the housing application).

How can I apply to live off-campus?

Students must be age 21 by August 1, have completed a minimum of 90 credit hours, or live with a parent/guardian within 60 miles of Huntingdon College to be eligible to live off-campus. More information about this, and the online application to live off-campus can be found here.

I have additional questions about the room selection process. Whom can I contact?

Please contact Director of Residence Life Christine Simone at csimone@hawks.huntingdon.edu or 334-833-4349 for additional information about the room selection process.
