Brakia Moore 2017

Dothan, Alabama, native and Huntingdon Ambassador Brakia Moore ’17 is lifting her voice, and what a song she has! A part of nearly all things musical at Huntingdon, she’s a member of the Marching Scarlet and Grey, the Gospel Choir, the Pom Squad, and the Concert Choir, in addition to the Black Student Union, Freshman Forum, and the Leadership Initiative. Brakia is majoring in political science and minoring in English with the intention of a career as an attorney. “I chose Huntingdon because of the great opportunities offered here,” she says. “Other colleges/universities I visited did not compare to Huntingdon and the growth I would experience here.” Brakia’s three words for Huntingdon are “Family-centered community,” and the things she loves most are “the beautiful scenery and Taco Tuesday!” Her favorite teacher is Dr. Donna Manson, professor of history, “because of her vibrant teaching style and her genuine compassion toward students’ learning.”  Most people at Huntingdon don’t know that Brakia has lost nearly 90 pounds in a quest to transform her life, much like her role model, Jennifer Hudson, about whom she says, “she has inspired and motivated me to accomplish many of my major goals.” Strong, determined, and involved, when she isn’t singing, Brakia is working out or hiking. So sing on, Brakia. We love that beautiful voice, and you have so much to sing about!
