Ambassador Hannah Howard ’17 has a heart for helping others, so you’ll be privileged if someday she is your child’s pediatrician, her professional goal. Right now she’s making the most of college, serving as vice president of recruitment for the Panhellenic Council, an SGA senator and treasurer, a member of the Pre-Health Professions Club, the Biochemistry Club, the American Chemical Society, the Student Alumni Association, Alpha Omicron Pi women’s fraternity, and a varsity cheerleader. But make no mistake, all that activity doesn’t keep her from the books, and her strong GPA has landed her on the Dean’s List of High Honors nearly every semester, as well as in Phi Eta Sigma, Order of Omega, and Gamma Sigma Alpha honor societies. When she has free time, she volunteers for Medical Outreach Ministry, “a health care clinic that provides free health care to the uninsured. It is such an eye-opening experience and a great way to apply Huntingdon’s motto, ‘Enter to grow in wisdom; go forth to apply wisdom in service.’” Having strong, solid mentors is important to Hannah. She says, “One of my favorite things about HC is that the professors truly invest in the education of their students. They are available to help at any time, even late at night and on weekends.” She adds, “My favorite professor is Professor Jaime Demick. She is personable, and she genuinely cares about her students. She makes the subject matter relevant to everyday life and teaches in such a way that students can understand hard material and want to learn more about it.” Her dream dinner partner is Dr. Ben Carson, with whom she’d like to discuss his journey to becoming a neurosurgeon. Her three words for Huntingdon are “Supportive, Versatile, Challenging.” We are certain this Lowndesboro, Alabama, native and biochemistry major will be successful in every future endeavor, and we can’t wait to hear of her med school adventures in her skyways beyond Hawkdom.
