Maggie Starr 2017

Ambassador Maggie Starr ’17 is one in trillions, and we’re lucky this Montgomery starr fell on the Huntingdon campus. With a movie-starr name and one of the friendliest smiles on the planet, you might think she’s more destined for starr-dom than for corporate work, but she has a carefully calculated plan. An accounting major, her next step will be a master’s degree in accounting. In 2015 she was named Future Sorority Greek Leader of the Year—she’s a Chi O—and she has served as president of the Panhellenic Council (and former vice president for finance). Maggie participated in the Miss Huntingdon Scholarship Pageant in 2015, as well, and says doing so was life-changing for her. “I stepped out of my comfort zone and met some really great girls. It was a highlight of my time here at Huntingdon.” You’d think that’s because a Starr loves a stage, but it’s not about that for Maggie, who prefers playing with her dogs, reading, and watching Grey’s Anatomy. Maggie transferred to Huntingdon and says, “I immediately became involved and took on leadership roles, which I think is a testament to Huntingdon College and how everyone here wants you to be part of something no matter if you came in as a freshman or a transfer.” Her mentor is Professor Brianne Wilson, assistant professor of accounting. “She has shown me so many things accounting has to offer, while also constantly encouraging me and helping me along the way. She also shows a real interest in her students’ success as well as a passion for the subject, which makes learning from her more fun.” Maggie feels most at home when surrounded by her friends, so she loves going to the DH or studying in the library atrium “because it is quiet but not secluded.” And at night, she can, no doubt, look up and see all those twinkling starrs.
