Community Service and Action Organizations

ServicePut your heart, mind, hands, and feet to work for the good of the community through these organizations:

  • Action and Awareness Committee:  This is a group of students who plan community service for all-campus service days, such as the Martin Luther King Great Day of Service and the Day of Service that is part of Big Red Weekend, to name just two examples. If you are a responder—someone who loves to lend a helping hand and/or someone who is good at recruiting others for the cause, contact Chaplain and Director of Community Service Brian Smith '94 to learn more about this group.
  • Autism Speaks U Chapter:  Organized during the 2012–2013 academic year, Autism Speaks promotes awareness campus-wide and raises funds to contribute to the research and education of those affected by autism.
  • Circle K International:  A community service group affiliated with Kiwanis Club International, students involved in Circle K are committed to the Kiwanis mission of "changing the world one child and one community at a time."  Circle K International (CKI) is the largest collegiate community service, leadership development, and friendship organization with more than 12,800 members in 17 nations.   CKI's mission is to develop college and university students into a global network of responsible citizens and leaders with a lifelong commitment to service.
  • Collegiate Exchange Club:  Huntingdon is the only post-secondary institution in the country to offer a Collegiate Exchange Club. Exchange Club is a service organization with the values of the prevention of child abuse and promotion of patriotism at its core.  Founded in 2011 at Huntingdon, 100 years after the first Exchange Club was founded, Collegiate Exchange Club members have a passion for service and a love of fellowship.  Learn more on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/138328576239267/.
  • Environmental Club: In addition to a community recycling program, the Environmental Club discusses and promotes action toward a healthier planet.
  • Habitat for Humanity: Sweat equity goes a long way toward helping build a better community. Habitat for Humanity builds the world neighborhood by constructing and reconstructing one home at a time for those who had no home previously.
  • Voice of Justice: Organized during the 2012–2013 academic year, Voice of Justice raises awareness about the worldwide injustice of human trafficking.
In addition to these groups, nearly every athletic team, fraternity or sorority, or other organization on campus offers service and outreach opportunities that combine the ideals of the organization with the ideals of the College:  "Enter to grow in wisdom; go forth to apply wisdom in service."
