Founded in 1914, the Student Government Association has a rich tradition of serving the student body. The purpose of the Student Government Association (SGA) is to advocate students’ rights; to facilitate communication between administration, faculty, and the student body; to promote the qualities of justice, leadership, and integrity; and to better the Huntingdon College community and the Montgomery community in which we live. The SGA is comprised of Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches. SGA is also the primary source of student entertainment and programming through the Campus Activities Board, Freshman Forum, and Volunteer Action.
The SGA Executive Council includes the president, vice president, treasurer, secretary, director of public relations and technology, and director of campus involvement.
The Student Senate is the legislative branch of student government. Senators are representatives of the students to administration. Senate meetings are open to everyone in the student body. Senators are appointed by academic departments.
The Judicial Board is composed of a chief justice, eight student justices, and two faculty representatives, and is overseen by the dean of students. The Judicial Board may have jurisdiction over all cases arising under the College’s Behavior Expectations for Students, other than those cases that have been processed administratively by the College. Members of the Judicial Board are selected through an application and interview process.
Each upperclass elects officers for a Class Council. The purpose of the sophomore, junior, and senior Class Councils is to sponsor activities that cater to the needs of their class, to make the class as a whole more active, and to serve as a voice for students for their class in the SGA Senate and at Huntingdon College.
Members of the freshman class may apply and interview to participate as members of Freshman Forum. The purpose of Freshman Forum is to sponsor activities that cater to the needs of the freshman class and make the class as a whole more active and feel more connected to Huntingdon College. Up to 20 first-year students are selected to serve on the Freshman Forum, which hosts the annual Huntingdon Haunted House as well as multiple socials and service projects.
The Campus Activities Board is the programming board for Huntingdon students. Members plan and implement activities and events for the student body.
Volunteer Action coordinates volunteer requests from community organizations and compiles records of volunteer hours given by Huntingdon students and student organizations.
