Huntingdon College
First Year Experience
Let's Get It Started 2005!
No matter what type of student you were in high school, making the transition to Huntingdon College presents many exciting challenges. One of these challenges will be balancing your academic and extra-curricular activities. The 2005 FYE Program is offered to help with the transition from high school to college life at Huntingdon.
The following components of Huntingdon’s FYE Program combine a variety of campus resources and services, targeted at your academic success, and personal growth:
- Let’s Get It Started...Moving In!
Huntingdon’s ANTS (faculty, staff, and administration “Assisting New & Transfer Students”) will help you move into the residence halls on “Campus Move-In Day.” - Let’s Get It Started...Adjusting to Huntingdon College Life
You will enroll in FYEx 101: The First Year Experience Seminar, a 1-credit hour course designed to provide transitional support to new students at Huntingdon. The course meets once a week during Fall semester, and covers topics such as academic success strategies, wellness, career planning, roommate relationships, the Huntingdon College Honor Code, decision-making, campus resources, and other topics. - Let's Get It Started...Making Connections
Start making connections, beginning with your FYEx 101 Instructor/Facilitator. Your FYEx 101 Instructor will serve as your mentor during your first year at Huntingdon. You will also become quickly connected to other first-year students in your FYEx 101 seminar class each week. - Let's Get It Started...Tackling Academics
Having trouble with some difficult courses at Huntingdon? Need a little help in writing a paper for class? The 2005 FYE Program at Huntingdon will provide weekly tutorials, supplemental instruction, and academic help for those courses at Huntingdon that have proven to be historically difficult. A schedule for these “Supplemental Instruction sessions” will be made available during the first week of classes. - Let's Get It Started...Programming in the Residence Halls
Special residence hall programming, movie nights, and other events consistent with the "Let's Get Started" theme will be planned for first year students. - Let's Get It Started...Attending FY Social Events
Ever been to a professional minor league baseball game? Join other first-year students and their FYEx 101 Instructors, faculty, staff, and administration as we head for a Montgomery Biscuits baseball game in late August/early September! "FYE Pizza Parties," star-gazing and telescope parties on the Green, and meals with your FYEx 101 class hosted by your FYEx 101 Instructor are on the agenda for the year. - Let's Get It Started...Playing Athletics
Are you one of the many student-athletes at Huntingdon this year? Learn how to balance your favorite sport(s)and practice schedules with academics in your FYEx 101 class and from other student-athletes at Huntingdon. - Let's Get It Started...Going to Huntingdon Athletic Events
Stay on campus during the weekends during Fall 2005 semester and go to one of the Huntingdon Hawks home football (THIS IS HAWKS FOOTBALL!), volleyball and/or soccer games. Special activities for first-year students are planned for all Huntingdon athletic games. - Let's Get It Started...Exploring Careers
Explore the many careers available to you via the Huntingdon College Career and Vocation Website. Learn about careers from your professors, pre-professional advisors, in your FYEx 101 class, and at the Career and Vocation Center in the Hut on campus. - Let's Get It Started...Reading a Book with the Entire Huntingdon Campus
Join the entire Huntingdon community on campus as we all read and talk about the same book in FYEx 101 class, in the dining hall, in classes, at the "Snack Bar," and in the residence halls during Fall 2005 semester. Special events that link the book to social events, Family Weekend, and guest lectures are planned.
