Ligon Chapel

Ecumenical chapel services are held in Huntingdon’s Ligon Chapel, located in John Jefferson Flowers Hall. Ligon Chapel was re-dedicated September 3, 1999, in honor of Leon Edward Ligon III and in memory of his wife, Myra Allman Ligon, whose generous gift to the College supported the renovation and refurbishment of the Chapel earlier that year.

In April 2001, Dr. Harald Rohlig, professor of music, played the inaugural concert on the newly expanded and installed Bellingrath Memorial Organ, which Dr. Rohlig designed. The Bellingrath Memorial Organ is one of the largest of its kind among private colleges in the Southeast, with 141 ranks and a four-manual keyboard. The Chapel’s Green Window, revered by alumni as a symbol of the Huntingdon experience, is framed by the new organ pipes, some of which are 32 feet in length. Ligon Chapel is the site of pageants, performances, lectures, convocations, concerts, and countless traditions at Huntingdon College.
