Huntingdon Hosts AISA Bands

About 500 high school band students—plus parents, band directors, and spectators—will be on the Huntingdon College campus Friday and Saturday, February 23–24, as the College band programs host the Alabama Independent School Association (AISA) Band Festival and Honor Band. During the Festival, Friday, February 23, 15 bands will perform at half-hour intervals, beginning at 8:00 a.m. in the College’s Drum Theater. The Honor Band will perform a concert Saturday at 4:30 p.m. in Roland Arena.

Celebrity Recital Set to Delight Audiences

Since the first Vann Vocal Institute Celebrity Recital was offered at Huntingdon College 11 years ago, stars representing every corner of the opera universe have amazed and delighted audiences during this nearly annual event. Thursday, March 8, at 7:00 p.m. in Ligon Chapel, Flowers Hall, world-renowned operatic artists who normally perform with such landmark companies as the Metropolitan in New York and the Lyric Opera of Chicago will converge on stage once again for the Celebrity Recital, a free public concert for the Montgomery community.

Ability Sport Network Hosts Wheelchair Competition

The Huntingdon College Ability Sport Network wheelchair basketball team, the Red Wings, will host a wheelchair basketball competition, Saturday, February 24, 9:00 a.m. in the James W. Wilson Jr. Gymnasium inside the Will and Kelly Wilson Community and Athletic Center.

Poet Frank X. Walker to speak for Ellison Lecture

Former Kentucky Poet Laureate Frank X. Walker, a professor of English and African American/Africana Studies at the University of Kentucky, will be the featured speaker for Huntingdon College’s Rhoda Coleman Ellison Writers Festival and Lecture, Thursday, February 22, 7:30 p.m. in Smith Music Building’s Delchamps Recital Hall. A native of Danville, Kentucky, Walker has been voted one of the most creative professors in the South.

History Professor Wins Dissertation Award

Huntingdon College faculty member Dr. Blake Ball, assistant professor of history, received word this week that his doctoral dissertation has been recognized with the 2017 University of Alabama Outstanding Dissertation Award.
