Buckner recognized for service to the United Methodist Church

Montgomery, Ala.—Huntingdon College professor of religion and associate provost Dr. Frank Buckner has been awarded the Francis Asbury Award by the Division of Higher Education at the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry of the United Methodist Church. The award recognizes and encourages support of higher education and campus ministries within the UMC by honoring individuals who have made significant contributions to fostering the church’s ministries in higher education at the local, district, or annual conference level of the church.

Dr. Buckner was one of 21 individuals selected for Asbury Awards this year. He has served on the Huntingdon faculty in the Department of Religion since 1987. He also serves as associate provost for curriculum and faculty development.

Huntingdon College, grounded in the Judeo-Christian tradition of the United Methodist Church, is committed to nurturing growth in faith, wisdom, and service and to graduating individuals prepared to succeed in a rapidly changing world. Founded in 1854, Huntingdon is a coeducational liberal arts college. In 2014 The Chronicle of Higher Education recognized Huntingdon among “The Fastest Growing Colleges in America,” and Huntingdon has been named among the top regional colleges by U.S. News and World Report and by the Princeton Review.
