Huntingdon Accepting Applications for New Church Leadership Certificate

Montgomery, Ala.—Huntingdon College is accepting applications for a new certificate program that will begin as students enter in the fall of 2022. The Huntingdon College Kingswood Church Leadership Certificate Program will allow students to earn a Church Leadership Certificate while developing leadership skills working alongside the College Chaplain and local church pastors and members of ministry staff.

“The formation of this certificate follows Huntingdon’s long partnership with the United Methodist Church and with other Christian denominations located in the River Region,” said Huntingdon President J. Cameron West. “For many years the College has offered the Huntingdon Leadership Academy (HLA) for high school students who are discerning their personal calling to careers in ministry. This new certificate builds on that program by offering a tangible certificate symbolizing the work students do as they complete their Bachelor of Arts degrees and look toward pathways that will allow them to serve the church either in some form of ministry or as lay leaders.”

Students in the Kingswood Church Leadership Certificate (CLC) program will learn and practice a variety of skills, including worship planning, writing Bible and spiritual life studies, and preaching and teaching. Students who apply to be part of this program, which carries a $16,000 annual scholarship renewable for up to four years, should demonstrate a strong track record as leaders in their church youth programs or ministry programs and/or high school clubs and organizations and have a willingness to be involved in the religious life of Huntingdon College, both on- and off-campus.

Incoming freshmen who are admitted to Huntingdon without conditions for fall 2022 and who complete the CLC Application form may be considered for the certificate and accompanying scholarship. Because of the time commitment required, this program is not open to students who are involved in intercollegiate athletic teams, cheer, band, or the College’s Presidential Fellows Program. Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis until all CLC spaces are awarded.
