Huntingdon Bands Host Marching Honor Band

Montgomery, Ala.—The Huntingdon College marching band, the Marching Scarlet & Grey, hosted their annual Scarlet & Grey Marching Honor Band, Saturday, September 7, coinciding with the first game of the season for the Huntingdon Hawks football team.

Nearly 200 high school students representing 50 high schools across the state were selected to perform. The young musicians joined the Marching Scarlet & Grey for the band’s traditional Hawk Walk and performed together in the stands and during the band’s halftime show. Musical selections included “Chain of Fools,” “Say a Little Prayer,” and “America, the Beautiful” in addition to the Huntingdon fight song. Participants arrived early that morning to coordinate the halftime show in little more than an hour’s rehearsal. Each participant received a commemorative Marching Honor Band medallion.

The festivities occurred with weather challenges because of the extreme heat at the time of the game and performances. But the heat only enlivened the students’ spirits, according to assistant director of bands Adam Murphy. “Despite the heat, we think the day was a great success!” said Murphy.

Through the Huntingdon Plan, Huntingdon full-time day students are provided books and information resources, a laptop computer, senior year travel-study opportunities, and active learning in their majors—all within regular tuition and fees. Huntingdon College is an institution with a rich liberal arts tradition that is grounded in the Judeo-Christian heritage of the United Methodist Church. The College embraces the development and growth of its students in faith, wisdom, and service, providing a solid foundation that will enable graduates to respond to the needs of today’s complex world.
