Huntingdon celebrates Martin Luther King Jr. Day with college-wide service
Montgomery, Ala.—The Huntingdon College community will celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, January 16, with a Day of Service in memory of Dr. King’s life and legacy. In partnership with the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), Huntingdon students will prepare Homeless Kits and Health Kits for distribution in the area and in areas of disaster or great need. Materials will be, in part, donated by Huntingdon faculty, staff, family members, and friends.
Donations of gallon-sized Ziploc bags, granola bars, bottles of water (suitable to put in a gallon-sized bag), and socks are necessary for the Homeless Kits. The Health Kits require donations of adhesive strips (such as Band-aids), bathroom hand towels, washcloths, combs 6″ or longer, metal nail files or clippers, bath-sized soaps (no Ivory or Jergens soap) in original packaging, toothbrushes in original packaging, and money for funding toothpaste and shipping. Donations are being accepted until Monday morning, January 16, at The Hut, the Huntingdon College center of Student Life programming. Huntingdon students will assemble kits 10–11a.m., 11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m., and 1:30–2:30 p.m. in Roland Arena.
