Huntingdon Hosts NetVUE Conference
Montgomery, Ala.—Huntingdon College will host a regional gathering of colleges involved in the Network for Vocation in Undergraduate Education, or NetVUE, Friday–Saturday, February 21–22. NetVUE, an initiative administered by the Council of Independent Colleges and supported by the Lilly Endowment Inc., is a nationwide network of colleges and universities formed to enrich the intellectual and theological exploration of vocation among undergraduate students.
Dr. Tom Perrin, interim vice president for academic affairs and dean of faculty, directs Huntingdon’s Sophomore Year is Calling program, part of the College’s overall initiative to address calling, vocation, and ethics in the undergraduate experience. “Huntingdon College has proudly been part of NetVUE since its inception,” says Perrin, “and the network has helped us develop a focus on vocation that extends across the institution. We are delighted to host this regional gathering, which will allow us to deepen our understanding of vocation in undergraduate education still further.”
Huntingdon’s regional meeting, “Where the Campus Meets the World: Vocation and the Post-College Transition” will involve 50 participants and will explore strategies for faculty and staff members who seek to help students put into practice beyond the classroom and the campus what they learn about vocation in the undergraduate setting. Panel discussions will include obstacles that can arise as students pursue their callings after college—including structural and socio-economic factors, disabilities, cross-cultural challenges, and the tendency of some forms of service to do more harm than good. Sessions will be held in Leo J. Drum Jr. Theater and the Cloverdale Building on the College’s Cloverdale Campus. Huntingdon President J. Cameron West will deliver the plenary address at 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 21. The keynote speaker is Dr. Sondra Wheeler, Martha Ashby Carr Professor of Christian Ethics, Wesley Theological Seminary. Her specializations include theological bioethics, biblical ethics, virtue ethics, and the historical roots of Christian moral theology.
