Huntingdon Students Inducted into Honor Societies

Montgomery, Ala.—Huntingdon College offers 15 honor societies into which students may earn membership on the basis of academic achievement, leadership, or other merits. Although the installation of student members into some of the honor societies this spring 2020 was hampered because of closures or postponements caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the following honor societies announced inductees or students who qualified for induction:

Alpha Beta

Alpha Beta is an honor society for upper-class students honoring excellence in scholarship and encouraging scholastic attainment. Spring 2020 inductees were:

Beta Beta Beta is a national biological honorary society, installed at Huntingdon College in 1946. Kappa Mu Epsilon

Kappa Mu Epsilon is a national honorary society open to majors and minors in mathematics who have achieved superior records in their field. The Alabama Epsilon chapter at Huntingdon College was chartered in April 1965. No students were inducted into Huntingdon’s chapter in spring 2020.

Lambda Pi Eta

Lambda Pi Eta, the National Communication Honor Society, requires that a student earn a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 overall and 3.5 in the major; has earned at least 12 credit hours in communication studies courses; and ranks in the top 35 percent of his or her class. Phi Eta Sigma

Phi Eta Sigma is an honor society that recognizes high academic achievement in the first year of college study. Membership eligibility is extended to those who have achieved cumulative grade point averages of 3.5 or better by the end of the first year while enrolled full-time in traditional day courses. Pi Sigma Alpha 2020

Pi Sigma Alpha is a national honor society for political science celebrating its 100th year in 2020. Huntingdon’s chapter began in 2019. Pi Sigma Alpha’s purpose is “to encourage the scientific and practical study of problems of government, to foster reforms in our governmental machinery, and to aid in the education of the electorate in problems of government.” Huntingdon’s 2020 inductees are:

Psi Chi 2020

The national honor society for psychology, Psi Chi was founded in 1929 for the purposes of stimulating and maintaining excellence in scholarship and advancing the science of psychology. No students were inducted in spring 2020.

Sigma Beta Delta 2020

Sigma Beta Delta is an honor society for business, management, and administration, serving higher education institutions that offer undergraduate and graduate degrees in business, management, and administration. To be eligible for membership, a student must rank in the upper 20 percent of the junior or senior class and be invited to membership by faculty members. Huntingdon’s chapter was founded in 1994. Spring 2020 inductees were:

Theta Alpha Kappa

Theta Alpha Kappa is the only national honor society serving the needs of and honoring excellence among those involved in the study of religion and/or theology. There were no inductees into Huntingdon’s chapter in spring 2020.
