Huntingdon Symphonic Honor Band Returns in April

Montgomery, Ala.—Huntingdon College Bands will host a Symphonic Honor Band for high school musicians in grades 9–12, Friday and Saturday, April 1–2, with special guest clinician and world-renowned musician Mr. Demondrae Thurman, professor of music at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Participants will rehearse and perform with some of the area’s best band students and the Huntingdon Winds Concert Band. Each participant will receive an Honor Band T-shirt and commemorative band medal. The fee for participation is $30. The application deadline is March 21.

Demondrae Thurman has earned a worldwide reputation as a euphonium soloist, educator, chamber musician, and conductor. He has given performances in Canada, Hungary, Japan, Hong Kong, Germany, France, Spain, Taiwan, Macau, Norway, China, Italy, Austria, England, Wales, and throughout the United States, working with many of the United States’ finest orchestras. Mr. Thurman is frequently invited to perform at many of the world’s most noted festivals and conferences for low brass, including the International Euphonium Tuba Conference, the United States Army Band Tuba Euphonium Workshop, and the Leonard Falcone International Solo Competition. He has released four solo recordings to stellar reviews and four recordings with the Sotto Voce quartet, with whom he performs frequently. Mr. Thurman has appeared as a guest conductor with numerous wind bands, brass bands, and symphony orchestras. In addition to serving on the faculty of the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, he teaches for Samford University and has given masterclasses and clinics for low brass at many of the world’s leading colleges and universities. Mr. Thurman is a Miraphone performing artist and a Shires Trombone performing artist.

The Huntingdon Band Program includes the Marching Scarlet and Grey marching band, Huntingdon Winds concert band, BallHawks pep band, and Huntingdon Jazz, among various instrumental chamber ensembles. Huntingdon bands are under the direction of Mr. Brandon Howard and assistant director Mr. Tavaris Marlow. The Huntingdon Department of Fine Arts offers majors in music and P–12 music education. Students from any major may be part of the band program.
