Julia Shappert 2017

Here she is: 2013 Distinguished Young Woman of Ohio, 2014 Miss Huntingdon, Ambassador Julia Shappert  ’17, from Commercial Point, Ohio. Summer 2016 included a trip to the Vatican, where she contributed her beautiful soprano voice to the Columbus International Children’s Choir’s performance. Performing is in her fiber—a whole new Julia comes out when she’s on stage. A bright, hot-pink social butterfly, Julia is all business when it comes to her studies and her future. Her first dream after graduation in December 2016 is to be accepted for an internship with Disney World in Orlando. Long-term, she’ll put her business administration major and professional communication minor to use in a job in management, human resources, and finance. She says, “I envision myself working for a mid-sized company that I am passionate about.”  Her favorite things about Huntingdon are, “Tight-knit community, gorgeous campus, the freedom to get as involved as you would like in student life, familiar and friendly faces, and the sweet treats at the dining hall.” She adds, “I see opportunity everywhere on campus. Student life and internships are so abundant here. It would be crazy not to be involved.” And is she ever involved! Name a club or organization and she’s probably in it—including Phi Mu women’s fraternity, the Concert Choir, and Huntingdon Harmony. During the spring 2016 semester, she carried a full-time load and two internships. Tiny as this mighty powerhouse of a woman is, you’d never know her favorite vice is food. “Southern food feeds the soul, which is a nice treat for a Northerner like me,” she says. Her favorite professor? “It’s hard to pick one! They make me laugh. They make me think. They make me wonder. Class is never dull for me. The professors are so kind, helpful, and wise.” So look out, Disney World. There’s a new Tinkerbell in town, and her name is Julia.
