Huntingdon Celebrates Campus Updates in 2024-2025 Year
Montgomery, AL – A number of Huntingdon College facilities received enhancements and improvements in the 2024-2025 academic year. The extensive list includes additions to campus housing offerings, and improvements to athletic venues and facility infrastructure. Huntingdon College President Anthony Leigh celebrated the investments made in facilities in the previous year.
“Through the Heart of Huntingdon Facilities Campaign and the Campaign for Champions initiative sponsored each year by our athletic teams, Huntingdon has been blessed by tremendous charitable giving by alumni and friends of the College that has fueled enhancements and additions to campus facilities. Whether we are growing residential occupancy, preserving historic academic spaces, or creating a better experience for our student-athletes, all of these projects have made Huntingdon a better place to live, learn, and play.”
The list of campus projects completed in the 2024-2025 year includes:
- The College enhanced the residential footprint of student housing by adding five additional properties to the Huntingdon Village, a collection of houses and apartments on adjacent streets that house upper-class students.
- Historic Flowers Hall received extensive infrastructure enhancement with a new HVAC system to continue the stability of the building. This upgrade replaces the original system and allows for enhanced temperature and humidity control.
- The Houghton Memorial Library also received an upgraded HVAC system. The continued maintenance assisted in the ongoing preservation of not only the building, but the vast collection of books, reference materials and archives that are housed in the historic building. In the spring, the Library also took over the textbook distribution from the Scarlet and Grey Shop.
- The Scarlet and Grey Shop, after relinquishing textbooks to the Houghton Library, opened a new space for social gathering and increased merchandise. Huntingdon merchandise can also be purchased online at huntingdon.edu.
The Huntingdon Hawks Baseball home, Neal Posey Field, added a new minor league style padded outfield wall. The update is a safety feature for players, an improved visual for fans at the games and increased space for sponsor logos.
- The George S. Gibbs Tennis Center courts received a new paint scheme of scarlet and grey.
- The men’s and women’s soccer teams, along with visiting teams, enjoyed permanent-covered bench seating on the field at the W. James Samford Jr. Soccer and Softball Complex on the main campus during their fall and spring seasons.
- The Alice Reynolds Outdoor Volleyball Courts were expanded with two additional courts for a total of four. The beach courts are the home of the Huntingdon Beach Volleyball team.
- The Huntingdon Golf program unveiled their first on-campus facility in the fall of 2024. The new space, located in the lower level of Catherine Dixon Roland Student Center, boasts indoor putting greens, driving bays, and state-of-the-art swing analysis filming software.
- Locker room upgrades were made for the Huntingdon Football team in the Buzz Phillips Field House. The team fundraised new lockers and flooring, HVAC system, showers, washers and dryers. Football lockers were named for alumni and friends that donated to the upgrades. Lockers are still available for naming. The Huntingdon Women’s Flag Football team has a new locker room in the Roland Student Center.
- The Esports team upgraded their facility in the Leo J. Drum, Jr. Theater with newer computer gaming systems. They also outfitted an additional practice facility to support the growing team.
