A Night of Blues Coming to Huntingdon

Montgomery, Ala. – On Monday, February 5, Huntingdon College will host a Night of Blues featuring Clay Swafford and Friends in Flowers Hall at 7:00 p.m. The concert is part of the Elizabeth Belcher Cheek Concert Series.

The lead musician in the quartet will be Clay Swafford who was raised in the small rural community of Providence, Alabama.  Born into a musical family, he was immersed in the chords of Baptist hymnals, country music and bluegrass sounds.  He took interest in the piano at an early age.  After hearing the music of B.B. King and Bobby Blue Bland at age 15, he was hooked on the blues and started on a path that would land him on the stage with the likes of James Cotton from the Muddy Waters Band, Hubert Sumlin from Howlin’ Wolf’s Band and countless others through the years.

Swafford will be accompanied by Frank Jordan, a bass player, drummer, and singer based in Birmingham; Mike Lawley, a guitarist and vocalist who spent ten years as an artist and songwriter with the Muscle Shoals Sound; and Jesse Diego-Walker Suttle, a long-time resident of Birmingham who has performed as a professional drummer and percussionist for more than thirty years.

Free and open to the public, the event is part of Huntingdon’s Community and Cultural Events Series, sponsored by Baptist Health.
