Dr. Stephen Sours Appointed to United Methodist Church Post

Montgomery, Ala. – Dr. Stephen Sours, Huntingdon Professor of Religion and Chairman of the Department of Religion and History, was recently elected to serve on the United Methodist Church Committee on Faith and Order. According to the Council of Bishops, The United Methodist Committee on Faith and Order was established in 2008 as “a visible expression of the commitment of The United Methodist Church to carry on informed theological reflection for the current time in dynamic continuity with the historic Christian faith, our common heritage as Christians grounded in the apostolic witness, and our distinctive Wesleyan heritage.”

“It is an honor to be elected to serve on the Committee on Fatih and Order,” commented Dr. Sours. “My academic work has focused specifically on Methodist theology from the Wesleyan tradition in dialogue with other churches. To have an opportunity to serve the church in this capacity is an exciting challenge.”
