Huntingdon College Announces New Undergraduate Major in Biochemistry and Cellular Biology/Pre Health
Montgomery, AL – Huntingdon College President Anthony Leigh announced the approval of a new undergraduate major in Biochemistry and Cellular Biology/Pre Health. The major will combine two similar programs into one cohesive track focused on research and preparation for medical school. Coursework will give students a firm foundation to prepare for the MCAT and include research experience in Physical and Analytical Chemistry, both highly recommended for admission to medical schools.
“Huntingdon has a long and proud tradition of preparing students for admission to medical school and for lives of leadership and service in the healing professions,” said President Leigh. “Hundreds of Huntingdon alumni are applying wisdom in service in hospitals, clinics, physician offices and other health care settings across the Southeast and beyond. This new pre-health major strengthens that tradition and will provide added academic value to the Huntingdon experience for students who aspire to gain admission to medical school at the completion of their Huntingdon degree and continue Huntingdon’s legacy as a powerful pipeline to medical school.”
Huntingdon’s Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Stephanie L. Kirschmann, commended the faculty for the new tailored pre health major and curriculum stating, “I am deeply grateful to our biology and chemistry faculty for their collaborative work in creating this interdisciplinary major, which reflects both academic excellence and a strong commitment to our students’ goals. This thoughtfully designed program will provide students with a rigorous foundation for medical school while continuing Huntingdon’s tradition of preparing graduates to serve with wisdom and purpose.”
Students can declare the new major in Fall 2026.
