Huntingdon Faculty Hall of Fame Announces First Inductees

Montgomery, AL – Huntingdon College is pleased to announce the first inductees to the Huntingdon College Faculty Hall of Fame; Dr. Mary Jane Brannon and Dr. Rhoda Coleman Ellison.

Dr. Mary Jane Crump Brannon ’37, a Huntingdon College alumna, went on to receive her M.S. in microbiology from the University of Alabama and her Ph.D. in parasitology from Tulane University. She returned to Huntingdon College in 1956 to teach biology. She stayed at Huntingdon for over 30 years as an educator and served as the department chair for several years. She was known for not only her incomparable knowledge of discipline but her support of her students at the College and after graduation. Dr. Brannon passed away on July 21, 2002.

Dr. Rhoda Coleman Ellison received her B.A. from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College, her M.A. from Columbia University, and her Ph.D. in English from the University of North Carolina. She was a member of the Woman’s College of Alabama and Huntingdon College faculty teaching English from 1930-1971 chairing the department from 1959-1971. In addition to her dedication to her students, she is also credited with several publications, including the preeminent collection of the College’s history accounts, History of Huntingdon College 1854-1954. Dr. Ellison passed away on September 12, 2005.

While both inductions are given posthumously, the recognition of the legacy of these two outstanding women will be shared at the Huntingdon College Awards Convocation during Homecoming, October 9 at 2:00 p.m. in the Flowers Hall Ligon Chapel. This event is free and open to the public.
