PREPARING FOR NURSING SCHOOL
One-year accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or 3-year Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) programs in Alabama require a bachelor’s degree and knowledge of health sciences, human biological systems and functions, and communication skills for working with patients and other health professionals. At Huntingdon, completion of the Biology major, along with coursework in preparation for admission to a nursing program, will propel you toward meeting your goal. Nursing Track requirements may be accomplished in three years or spread across all four years, leaving time for general electives to fulfill the 120-hour degree completion requirement.
The Huntingdon College Nursing Track provides you with the knowledge, confidence, and skills you will need to be successful in nursing school and in a variety of health settings. Whether you plan to practice in a hospital, private practice, home health care, educational setting, corporation, or another setting, your Huntingdon training will prepare you for any path you choose to take in nursing school.
Huntingdon’s challenging coursework, opportunities for meaningful internships, and small classes will give you a competitive advantage for admission to accelerated nursing, regular BSN, or MSN programs. Letters of recommendation written by Huntingdon faculty members who know you personally throughout your academic career will strengthen your applications.
SPECIALIZED ADVISING
At Huntingdon, students who are interested in entering a health profession meet with a member of the College’s Pre-Health Professions Committee, a group of faculty who specialize in advising students for entry into medical and health-related fields. As you choose and complete your coursework, you will do so in consulation with the nursing adviser from the PHPC, ensuring focused attention toward completion of your goals.
