Rainy Days Never Dampen the Commencement Spirit

Whether rainy, cloudy, or sunny, no weather could squelch the moods of the members of the Class of 2015 in the traditional day program or the Evening Bachelor’s Degree program as they accepted their diplomas and let their caps fly Saturday, May 16, 2015.

  • The Commencement Address, “It’s Not Complicated,” was delivered by Ms. Leslie Sanders, vice president of the Southern Division, Alabama Power Company.
  • The ceremony was held on The Green.
  • The Graduate Address was given by Amanda Lynne Butterworth Wineman ’15, History, Cut Bank, Montana.
  • The Margaret Read Scholarship Medal, presented to the graduate who completes at least 120 hours at Huntingdon and earns the highest grade point average among those in the graduating class, was awarded to Storm McWhorter ’15, Chemistry, Prattville, Alabama. Caitlin Ray ’15, English, Enterprise, Alabama, and Kalyn Spatol ’15, Sport Studies-Sport Management, Endicott, New York, were also recognized for achieving perfect grade point averages during their studies at Huntingdon.
  • The Loyalty Award, voted upon by members of the senior class, was presented to Micah Wright ’15, Psychology/Religion, Madison, Alabama.
  • The Willard D. Top Award, given annually to a graduating senior who exemplifies outstanding commitment to academics and service to Huntingdon College, was presented to Wesley Smithart ’15, Communication Studies/Religion, Union Springs, Alabama.
  • Dr. Lynn Disbrow, professor of communication studies, was recognized with the Winn and Gordon Chappell Academic Enrichment Award, voted upon by faculty.
  • Dr. Kristine Copping, associate professor of psychology, was honored with the Julia Lightfoot Sellers Award for Excellence in Teaching. The award is given annually, voted upon by members of the senior and junior classes as “that member of the teaching faculty who, in their judgment, has done much this year toward inspiring them to nobility of purpose and rekindling within them a deeper desire for learning.”

  • The Evening Bachelor’s Degree Commencement Address, “Guaranteed Success,” was given by Mr. Sean K. Johnson, executive vice president, Central Alabama Area president, Regions Financial Corporation.
  • The ceremony was held in Roland Arena.
