Huntingdon is proud to be a College of the Church! Since 1872, relationship with the United Methodist Church (and its antecedents) has been central to the life of Huntingdon College. Today, our student body represents a diverse collection of denominational identities, and the teaching of religion continues to be central to our mission.

The General Education Core Curriculum is designed to support Huntingdon College’s motto, which is “Enter to grow in wisdom; go forth to apply wisdom in service.” Through four courses in Religion (including Old Testament and New Testament) as well as classes in vocation and ethics, students grow in wisdom. Then, they apply wisdom in service as knowledgeable leaders in local congregations and through vocational ministry.

Welcome to GRACE UNFOLDING, a Lenten guide!

The results of daily practice of Scripture, thoughtful meditation, and prayer are rarely seen daily. To be sure, there are days when activities coincide with the themes of the daily readings. Most often, though, the results of our devotion are seen in the ending of seasons. In other words, while God’s work in our lives is sometimes seen in the moment, it is always seen over time.

GRACE UNFOLDING is an invitation to see God’s activity in your life over a 40-plus day period called Lent. It is a season of preparation. It is a season of trial. It is a season of intentionally setting our personal desires in the back seat so that we might hear and grapple with this unfolding work that grace is doing in us.

The authors of these devotions are students, faculty, staff, Trustees, and friends of Huntingdon College. We are grateful to each of them.

President Anthony Leigh proclaimed this academic year as a year to Celebrate Huntingdon! While Lent is decidedly not a season for celebration, we continue to be grateful for this thriving institution of the Church. Here are some reasons for our gratitude:

  • The largest Fall and Spring residential enrollment in Huntingdon history
  • A Top 10 ranking among regional colleges in the South by U.S. News and World Report
  • The renovation of facilities and the building of new facilities through the Heart of Huntingdon Campaign

Thank you for joining us on this Lenten journey of looking for GRACE UNFOLDING in our lives. May you see and know the goodness of God even in this season of self-denial.

Nominations for Susanna Wesley Promise of Ministry Award

The Susanna Wesley Promise of Ministry Awards are presented to a male and a female high school junior from each church who exhibit promise for theological formation and participation in ministry as clergy or laity. The award is named to honor the mother of John Wesley and Charles Wesley. It was Susanna Wesley who provided the education for her children. She also spoke prophetically about John’s important role in Christian history when John was just a child. Leaders of Methodist churches in Alabama and West Florida can find the nomination form below.
